Glenmark Generics Limited (GGL) was incorporated as a subsidiary of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited (Glenmark). 

To accelerate growth in the Generics and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) SBUs, Glenmark, reorganized its business (with effect from April 01, 2008) by moving these two segments into GGL. The Specialty business comprising of branded generics and R&D continue to be a part of the parent company Glenmark. 

The reorganization was to promote sharper focus on Generics and Specialty as separate businesses with distinctive needs, skill-sets, objectives, growth imperatives, aligned management teams, infrastructure and resources.
